

Born in Scotland, he was the son of the late David and Sarah (Mulhinch) Withers. He came to the US in 1924 and lived in Lynn and Peabody for most of his life.
He was an Army Veteran of WWII, fought in the battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals. He was a member of the 3rd Armored Division Association of the U. S. Army.
A production engineer, he retired from the G.E. in 1982 after 42 years with the company. He coached Little League in Lynn, was a Boy Scout Leader, and loved to play golf.
He leaves three children, Kevin D. Withers and his wife Robin of Springfield, Cathleen M. Gilmour and her husband Lawrence of Peabody, and Robert J. Withers and his wife Catherine of Marlboro, two sisters, Margaret Scott of Hamilton and Elizabeth Crowe of Beverly, three grandchildren, Catherine Withers, Thomas Withers, and Robert Morris and his wife Jacqui, two great-grandchildren Bryce and Cailyn Morris, and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late John Withers.
A funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 10AM in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-7PM. Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
