

Mr. Robert M. Woodard, age 89 years, of Wakefield, died Tuesday at the Bear Hill Nursing Center in Stoneham, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Edith (Faretra) Woodard, with whom he shared 67 years of Marriage. Born in Jackson County Tennessee, he was the son of the late Robert C. and Clara (Maggatt) Woodard. He attended schools in Tennessee, and also graduated from the Vaughn Barber School in South Boston. He joined the U. S. Navy in 1940, and served aboard the USS Vincennes, USS Chicopee, and the USS Heritage as a Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class during World War II. Mr. Woodard owned and operated Woodard's Hardware Store in Day Square East Boston until he retired in 1961. He was a member of the Wakefield Men's Club. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed painting, writing poetry, traveling, music and singing. In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters Claire Battis of Revere, Sheryl Bourgeois and her fiancAC. Scott Bucknam of Lynn, one son Charles A. Woodard of Saugus, three sisters Winnie Moss of Marion, NC, Mary Choate of Belleville, IL, Mildred Hinson of FL, seven grandchildren Andrea, Kimberly & Robert Battis, Thomas & Eric Bourgeois, Timothy and Christeine Woodard, five great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Parker Funeral Home, 35 Franklin St. Lynn on Friday at 9:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Lynnfield at 10:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend.
