

Born in Cambridge, Tom was the son of the late Thomas J. O’Toole Sr. and Agnes (Welch) O’Toole and was raised in Arlington, MA. He was a graduate of Saint Agnes School in Arlington and Saint John’s High School (Cambridge) Class of 1953. He then attended Boston College and was a graduate of the Class of 1957.
Tom was a devout Catholic and most recently was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott.
For many years, Tom was employed as a sales representative with the American District Telegraph (ADT) Alarm Division in Boston and prior to his retirement was employed as a Tax Examiner with the Internal Revenue Service in Andover, MA.
Tom was an avid golfer for most of his life and had been a former member of Happy Valley and later Gannon Golf Course in Lynn, Hillview Country Club in North Reading, Andover Country, and Kelly Green’s Golf Club in Nahant.
Tom had a pet name for everyone he met and opinion on pretty much everything without any filter. He is fondly remembered for his sharp tongue, quick wit, and unique sense of humor. He had many memorable quotes and referred to all bartenders as his favorite. He and close friend Jack Imperial enjoyed solving the world’s problems each morning over coffee for many years. Tom was proud of his Irish heritage, particularly his Galway roots. Tom was an avid supporter of all Boston College sports, particularly the football and hockey teams, as well as all Boston sports teams. In his later years, Tom found great enjoyment attending as many of his grandchildren’s many sporting events and activities wherever they were held. He was also a member of the Massachusetts Senior Action Council and enjoyed playing cribbage at the Swampscott Senior Center. Tom lived in Nahant for many years and remained a fixture on the island after relocating to Lynn several years ago and leaves many close friends there.
Tom proudly served in the United States Army on both active duty and Reserves from 1958 to 1963 and was a member of the Nahant American Legion.
Tom is survived by his children, Lynn Police Captain Mark F. O’Toole and his wife “the lovely Gina” as Tom referred to her as, Lynn Police Officer Anne M. Magner and her husband Lynn Police Sergeant Timothy W. Magner. He is also survived by his grandchildren, United States Army Lieutenant Mark F. O’Toole Jr. of Fort Jackson, SC, and his fiancé, Alicia Tavares, Jacklyn M. O’Toole, City of Lynn Firefighter Timothy W. Magner II, Jill C. Magner, and Shannon C. Magner, all of Lynn. Tom also leaves nieces Linda and Karen Quinn of Quincy, and New York Supreme Court Justice Hon. Nancy Quinn-Koba of Ossining, NY. He was the great-uncle of Erica (Quinn) Kintscher, Miranda and Stephen Koba, and Katelyn Quinn-Cyr, and was great-grand uncle to Anthony, Christian, and Jaxson Kintscher, and brother-in-law of Frank Martorana. Tom also leaves many cousins across the US particularly in Portland, Maine and Kilroe West and Spiddal, Galway, Ireland.
Tom was the former husband of the late Martha C. (O’Leary) O’Toole, the beloved brother of the late Marie T. (O’Toole) “Sis” Martorana, the uncle of the late Stephen Quinn, and close companion of the late Eileen “Babe” Lombard.
