

Born in Lynn, January 23, 1944, he was the son of the late John J. Corbett, Sr., and the late Gladys M. (Shanahan) Corbett. He attended St. Pius School, Lynn, St. John’s Preparatory School, Danvers, received a B.S. in Biology from Boston College, Chestnut Hill, and an M.S. in Medical Microbiology from the Marquette University School of Medicine (now the Medical College of Wisconsin), Milwaukee, Wis. He gained dual Irish citizenship in 1990.
Mr. Corbett was a Microbiologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital where he was Head of the Serology Section of the Bacteriology Department. He wrote the first MGH Laboratory Safety Manual and served as Chairman of its MGH Laboratory Safety Committee. He was president of the Northeast Branch of the American Society for Microbiology, President of the Boston Bacteriological Club, served as a consultant to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, helped draft the State’s Regulations for Independent Laboratories, Regulations for Hospital Laboratories, consulted for the Federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act, and served as a reference laboratory for Massachusetts, Federal Government, Wisconsin, and New York. He enjoyed teaching Medical Students, Pathology Residents, and Infectious Disease Fellows.
Upon retirement from Microbiology, he involved himself in all aspects of residential and commercial income property. After a snow blower accident in which he lost several fingers, Mr. Corbett entered yet another career in computer networking as he returned to school to become a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer. He was then employed by the Timeslips Division of Best U.S. Holdings – a software program for billing legal work. He was most recently employed by Millennium Training Institute as an instructor in Computer Technology and their Medical Assistant program and assigned to Gloucester, Boston, and Lowell.
Mr. Corbett was involved in many community activities including serving as the President of the Board of Directors, Lynn Economic Opportunity; President of the Lynn Taxpayers’ Association; and a Board Member, Project Cope. He will be remembered for a great sense of humor. He was a member of Mensa, The High IQ Society.
He is survived by a brother, John J. Corbett, Jr. of Derwood, MD.
He is also survived by three sons and two daughters: William P. Corbett, Jr. of Marblehead and his wife Karen; Karen M. and Paul Livernois, of Londonderry, NH; Brian T. Corbett of Lynn; Maureen C. Mitchell of Lynn, and John J. Corbett, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, a Junior at Harvard College. He also sadly leaves eight grandchildren; Christopher, Nathaniel and Sarah Livernois, Taidhgin and Declan Mitchell, and Caroline, Carter, and Chloe Corbett. He was formerly married to Aileen (Weber) Corbett of Lynn and currently married to Debra S. (Dallaire) Corbett of Peabody. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Yvette Livernois. He leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours for Bill will be held in the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Sunday from 1-3PM followed by a Funeral Service at 3:00PM. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
