

Afke Johnson, age 85, of Snohomish, Washington passed away peacefully on November 11, 2022 surrounded by family. Afke was born to Pieter and Anna Van den Ban in Amsterdam Netherlands on December 17, 1936.
In 1956 Afke immigrated to the United States to join her sister Judy and her husband Ken Christopherson who were stationed in the Seattle area. She met her loving husband Roy Johnson almost immediately after arriving in Seattle and married February 1st, 1958. Together they raised four children, Lynn, Susan, Phyllis and Ron.
Afke was a seamstress in Holland, making formal gowns for elite women including Eleanor Roosevelt. She continued sewing custom draperies along with her mother, Anna in Snohomish while raising her family.
Roy and Afke enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, snow skiing and snowmobiling with family and friends. They did some traveling and loved going on cruises with their friends.
Afke was preceded in death by her parents Pieter Barend & Anna Catharina Marie Van den Ban, infant brother Peiter Jr and grandson Corey Pierce.
Afke is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Roy Johnson. Also, daughter Lynn (Clay), daughter Susan (Mike), daughter Phyllis(Brian) and son Ron (Emily). Afke was a wonderful grandma to 8 grandchildren. Ryan (Nicole), Christina (Levi), Corey, Kevin (Amy), Shawn (Jennifer), Chase, Ana and Macee. She also was blessed with 8 great grandchildren-(Tinley, Ada & Noah Knapp) (John Pierce) (Kasen & Kamden Reinholtz) (Grace & Mathew) (Char). Afke is survived by her Sister, Judy Christopherson and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a private graveside service at Purdy & Walters Floral Hills (Lynnwood, WA).
The family would love to invite all our friends to help us celebrate Afke’s life with a ceremony held at 4 p.m. November 22nd at Machias Meadows, 14607 OK Mill Rd, Snohomish, WA 98290.
