Alejandrino “René” Cuarteros Taculad, age 78, of Everett, Washington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 22nd, surrounded by his family. On September 4th, 1943, he was born to Anecito Ednalgan and Sergia Bajao Cuarteros Taculad in Palkan, Polomolok, South Cotabato, Philippines. He was the sixth of ten children.
René graduated from Notre Dame of Dadiangas University also known as Notre Dame in General Santos, South Cotabato, Philippines and went on to enlist in the United States Navy in 1966 at Sangley Point, Cavite City, Cavite, Philippines, and retired in 1988 as AKC Chief Aviation Storekeeper. He was awarded a Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal with Star, Navy Unit Commendation with Star, Meritorious Unit Commendation with Star, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with Three Stars. As a survivor of the post-WWII Philippines, René succeeded in accomplishing what few in his generation were able to do. He accepted and served his adoptive country with honor and distinction with over 20 years of service in the US Navy through numerous conflicts. As a civilian, he continued to serve as a representative for his shipmates and fellow veterans as Everett’s VFW Service Officer for well over a decade.
René was an active member of several community organizations, including the Filipino American Military Retired Association (FAMRA), Pacific Asian American Music (PAAM), Sno-King Filipino American Association, Pastoral Council, Shriners, Knights of Columbus, St. Pius X Catholic Church, and more. He was a devout Catholic who valued life, love, and dignity to God. He will be missed, remembered, and honored by all who knew him.
In addition to his beliefs of serving and helping others in faith and God, René was most proud of his family. He received unconditional love and provided his unconditional love, support, and dedication as a husband, father, grandfather, and uncle to all. René was preceded in death by his parents, Anecito and Sergia Taculad and brothers Juanito,Cerlito,and Niceporo Taculad (four siblings died in childhood due to smallpox). René is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rosalinda, proud daughters Rachel, Roseann, and Renee (Lloyd), sisters Estrella (Neneng) and Deomedita (Inday), grandchildren Jackson, Dillon, Kingston, and Lorenzo; nephews and nieces Penny, Angelo, Johnny, Joseph, Joel, Jonell, Joy, Chin, and Jessica.
A visitation will be available to the public on Thursday, June 2nd, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Rd, Lynnwood, WA 98036. The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 3rd at 11:00 am at St. Pius X Church, 22209 58th Ave W, Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043.
