

Beverly Reed Stevens, formerly of Mercer Island, WA and a current resident of Mount Vernon, WA, was born September 10, 1933 in Sharon, Pennsylvania and departed this life at Hospice House in Bellingham, WA on October 2, 2014. She was the eldest of 2 children born to Floyd and Mabel Reed.
Beverly was raised in Kinsman, OH and graduated from Kinsman High School in 1951. She then attended Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York where she met her future husband, Donald M. Stevens. Later, she furthered her education at Seattle Pacific University and spent her professional career at Puget Sound Power and Light.
Beverly and Don were married in Kinsman, OH on August 27, 1955 and lived in London, Ontario, Lansing MI and finally settled in the Seattle area. During these times, Bev provided strong support, motivation and loving encouragement to Don as he pursued his educational journey, earning his PH.D. from the University of Washington.
While living in Lansing, Michigan, they welcomed their son, Kevin Dale, into their family and in 1969 their daughter Kristin Renee arrived to complete their family. After a 5 year respite to remain at home with her children, Beverly returned to Puget Power in 1976 to continue her career with the company and retired after a 26-year tenure in June 1997 as Executive Assistant to the President of the newly-merged Puget Sound Energy. Her husband, her family, and many friends have been her devotion in life. As a gracious hostess she always enjoyed entertaining, enjoying the warmth of family and friends.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Don, after 59 years of a dedicated and loving marriage, her children Kristin (Rick) LeClair of Bothell, WA, Kevin Stevens of Seattle, WA and her two devoted grandsons, Ryan and Patrick LeClair also of Bothell.
She is also survived by her brother Robert (Carolyn) Reed of Sterling Heights, Michigan and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Floyd B. Reed and her mother, Mabel DeJean.
Beverly’s love of the outdoors took many avenues. She enjoyed biking with her husband and family, particularly if the trails went through back roads or along the waters of Puget Sound. She had an enthusiastic love for boating and taking in all the magnificent sights of Puget Sound by water and in being so close to unspoiled nature and beauty. She loved to share her boating experiences with family and friends. Travel was a special part of her life enjoying both the beauty and history of traveling coast to coast through the US, Canada and river cruises through Europe. She loved music, especially the beautiful music her husband played. It was such a big part of their lives.
She was a beautiful woman, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and a lady of unquestionable integrity, character and poise. She enriched the lives of many and her passing leaves a huge void.
A celebration of Beverly’s life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Bethany Covenant Church, Mount Vernon, WA at 1:00 PM.
