Dale Douglas “Doug” O’Leary was born October 14, 1952, in Coos Bay, Oregon. He lived his early years in Everett, WA, most of his teen years in Virginia, eventually returning to WA where he graduated from Puyallup H.S. in 1971. He spent one summer fishing off the coast of Oregon on his Uncle John’s commercial fishing boat, an experience he cherished. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1971 -1976. He worked at Vancouver Doors in Puyallup, Weyerhaeuser Timber Co. in Coos Bay, Yellow Cab in Tacoma, and Staff Pro as a security guard for special events in the Seattle/Tacoma area. He was also a member of AA and volunteered his time speaking to high school students about alcohol addiction.
Doug was very proud of his Irish heritage, and loved all things Irish. He inherited his mother’s love of antiques and together they enjoyed button-collecting. He became an active member of both the National and Washington State Button Societies. He also enjoyed gardening--particularly growing his own vegetables, and playing card and board games with his family.
Doug was married twice and is survived by his five children: Jason (& Kim) O’Leary, Kathy (& Dan) Guimont, Shannon O’Leary, John O’Leary, and Kelsey Nightingale-Kane. He has four grandchildren: Joseph ("L.J."), Rylee, Alayna, and Maleah.
Doug is also survived by his mother Barbara (& Merle) Johnson; siblings Debbie Stinson, Bruce O'Donnell, Shawn O'Leary, Colleen Armer and their spouses; grandmother Rachel O'Leary; and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, step-sisters and -brothers.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dale F. O'Leary.
