David grew up in Lake Charles, LA. He is survived by Patti (wife), mother (Ethel), brothers (John, Jerry, and Doug), extended family members, and numerous friends. David was preceded in death by his dad John Donette.
David had a lot of technical skills. He enjoyed working on cars, doing construction, and cooking. David’s interest in building began in high school. He started out building scaffolding for the plants within Lake Charles. Later, David took employment with a construction company doing construction throughout the US.
In 1990, David’s work took him to north Seattle and there he met Patti. In 1991, the two were married. David was a devoted person. His deep devotion to his mother and immediate family members carried over to his wife and extended family and friends.
David loved to cook, particularly cooking for others. Some favorite foods of David’s included etouffees, anything with crawfish, and boudin. Anyone who was blessed to enjoy David’s cooking will tell you, you did not go away hungry. All enjoyed his amazing gumbo, jambalaya, along with BBQ chicken, sausage, and more. Food was always plentiful and delicious when he cooked.
David was generous and kind to all. There’s not a family member (or strangers he encountered) who he has not helped. More than likely, there’s at least one building project around these folks that his hands touched. He was always willing to teach others and we’ll fondly remember his voice saying “What you take and do is….”
David’s smile, laugh, and genuine nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
