Dee Gooby died peacefully on Saturday, March 27th, after a one-year battle with lung cancer. She was 61 years old.
Born in Seattle, Dee spent her first 12 years in the Seattle area. At the age of 12, Dee, along with her 6 brothers and sisters, moved to Missouri where they spent the next 4 years playing on tractors, shooting bee-bee guns, and catching fireflies before moving back to Washington.
After settling in Seattle, Dee married and gave birth to 3 beautiful children; Scott, Shanin, and Larry. As a young mother, Dee busied herself with their activities, as well participated in a bowling league. unfortunately, her beloved little Larry passed away unexpectly at age of 2 1/2 years. Dee mourned his passing her whole adult life, but found peace in the knowledge that they would be together again one day.
Dee settled into a career in the Real Estate industry first selling real estate, before eventually settling into the escrow side of the industry as an LPO. She spent many of her early years working for Home Reality before settling at Golf Mortgage for the last few years of her career before retiring a few years ago.
Family was everything to Dee. Every Memorial Day weekend was spent camping in her RV with family; her brothers and sisters, in-laws, nieces, nephews, kids, and grandkids. She enjoyed going Jeeping with her husband of 22 years, Larry. She loved going out on their boat and camping at her favorite place, Fort Spokane.
Dee also loved her children more than anything, but nothing could compare to the love and pride she had for her grandchildren-there was NOTHING she wouldn't do for those kids. She had bins of crafts for when the kids came to visit, and always made sure that every holiday was special whether it be Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, or any other day she could think of to make special.
Dee is preceded in death by her son Larry, brother Kirk, mother Jan and father Glenn, as well as some cousins, aunts, and friends. She was looking forward to reuniting with her son, brother, and parents more than anything, and knows the reunion will be sweet.
Dee is survived by her busband, Larry Gooby; children, Scott (Eileen) Stennes, Shanin (Matt) Calnon, Laura (Jeremy) Young, and Clifford (Jamie) Gooby; grandchildren, Mikayla Stennes, Cole and Cade Calnon, Trevor Young, and Courtney and Rylee Gooby; sisters Dewey (Les) Jinkins, Coleen (John) Fernandes, and brothers, John Granroth, Larry (Jan) Granroth, and Kurt (Myrna) Beck; parents-in-law, Clifford and Margaret Gooby, as well as a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues.
It is with the greatest respect that the family thanks all of the people who came into the Gooby home to help care for Dee in her last days. Because of these wonderful people, Dee was able to die at home as she wished.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Providence Hospice of Snohomish County at 2731 Wetmore Ave., Ste 500, Everett, WA 98201 or www.providence.org/phhc.
