Donald A. Olson, 79 of Lynnwood, Washington, passed peacefully in his sleep, entering into eternal presence with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, on August 25, 2025. Born February 2, 1946, raised in Seattle and Alderwood Manor, Washington and graduated from Mountlake Terrace High School. After high school he attended Everett Junior College before joining the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He served for 6 years with honor and dedication to the Corps. Semper Fi ran deep in his veins — “Always Faithful” to the end in every aspect of life. Soon after he joined the Corps he met and fell in love with his beautiful bride, Sandy. Together they built their family, guided by their faith and his exceptional listening skills. His kindness was extended to anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. A true gentleman depicts him very well. He was known for his great sense of humor, was very quick-witted and a master at dad jokes — which thoroughly entertained his children & grandchildren. No one could tell a joke as good as he could!
Don loved driving and made a lifelong career of it. He became a Teamster working in the beer industry, for approximately 30 years — mostly delivering Rainier Beer. After retiring from the Teamsters, he worked for the US Postal Service for over a decade. He valued the friends and colleagues he worked with throughout his career and enjoyed spending time with them. Don’s greatest passions were his faith, his family and his sports. He attended New Life Center for a decade, then closer to home Westgate Chapel for many years until caring for his wife and the final 10+ years of his life he spent at Hope Church Snohomish with his daughter and family. He had a strong prayer life and demonstrated this by serving on the city prayer team at Westgate Chapel. He loved playing sports throughout his life and was a big sports fan. When the Seahawks came to town in ’76 he was passionate for this new team, but his love for the UW Huskies was only overshadowed by his love for his kids, grandkids and great grandkids. He enjoyed golfing, especially with his friends, former co-workers, and close family members. As a humble man of Norwegian heritage, Don was well known as “Holy Ole” for his deep rooted, uncompromising, gentle-hearted Christian faith.
He was also very well known for a life of selfless service, incredible patience, soft spoken, slow to speak and respectful treatment of anyone he met or knew. Other things he greatly enjoyed were the lake (especially Lake Cavanaugh), the ocean, his dogs and horse, cars, music, fishing, hot summers in Lake Chelan, doughnuts, cartoons and comedies!
Don was a dearly loved, amazing dad which came so naturally to him. He lovingly raised two step-daughters, a daughter and a son with deep care and commitment. He was always dependable, supportive, consistent and best of all fun! These traits continued as he became a grandpa and a great grandpa where he well-deservedly earned the title “The Great One” from great-grandson, Carter. He shared a very strong bond with his 1 1/2 year old great-granddaughter Whitley, the apple of his eye, and he was her buddy. Weeks before he passed he was so proud of his newest great-grandson, Timmy and treasured each moment he had with him. As well as his family until his final day here on earth.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Sandra Olson, Lynnwood, WA, parents; Allen and Marie Olson, brother David Olson, and step-daughter Windy Chavez. He is survived by his daughter, Kristi Olson-Johnson (Mark), son, Stephen Olson, step-daughter Kimberly Vota (Phillip), grandchildren Kaylee “Tweetie” (Taylor), Steven David (Nesha), his “M&M” twins Markus and Matthew (Leslea), Alec, Alaina, Kristina, Christopher, Justin, Jessica, and great-grandchildren Carter, Whitley and Timothy as well as his two nieces Sue and Shelli (Brian), and two cousins Karen and Robin. Forever in our hearts. Daddy, you will be deeply, deeply missed ~ until we meet again, we will continue Proverbs and coffee with you in our hearts. And yes, I will remember to use my mirrors.
A Funeral Service will be held at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills chapel, 409 Filbert Rd in Lynnwood, Washington, Monday September 15th, 2025 at 11:00am. There will be a Graveside Service with Marine Military Honors and reception immediately after.
