Duane was born on February 13, 1936 to Ralph Donald and Bessie Elizabeth (Norman) Carpenter of Spokane, Washington where he spent his early years along with his older brother Donald.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife Kay Dorothy (Purcell) who he was married to from April 1959 to March 1998, and his brother Donald Ralph Carpenter.
He is survived by his wife Mary Theresa (Terry) who he married in February 2006. His daughters Sharon Piccolo (Jeffery) and Patricia Benson (Richard), son David Carpenter (Sheri), grandchildren Jennifer Piccolo (John Rickabaugh), Stephanie Kenison (Nathan), Charissa Stewart (Paul), Lindsey Griffin (Kevin), Celeste Hagan (Bernard) and Christopher Carpenter, great-grandchildren Sydney Rickabaugh, Alex Kenison, Mathew Kenison, Jackson Stewart, Saila Stewart, Steven Stewart, Eli Griffin, and Eva Griffin, step-daughter Laura Sonmore-Caulfield (John) and step-son Lowell Sonmore (Jackie), step-grandchildren Ashley Sonmore (TJ Dycus), Austin Sonmore, and Charlie Sonmore and step-great-grandchildren Connor Rapp and Rilynn Dycus who brought him much joy with each card, phone call, and time spent with them.
Duane attended Saint Augustine grade school and Gonzaga High School in Spokane and graduated from Seattle Preparatory High School in Seattle. He attended Seattle University and proudly served in the US Navy as a Jet Engine Mechanic.
Duane spent 32 years with Sears, serving in the Seattle, Tacoma, Redmond and Lynnwood stores as Sales Retail Department Head, Inventory Control, Personnel Manager and Operations Manager.
He was very active in community affairs wherever he lived especially with the City of Mill Creek where he served on committees that resulted in the development of the Mill Creek town center.
Duane was a kind and loving man who will be remembered for his warm smile, giving spirit and positive personality. A man of faith, he deeply loved his family and delighted in his role by showering his family with unconditional love, support, and never forgetting a birthday or an anniversary.
He enjoyed travelling, taking road trips and visiting different places. Whether they were long or short, he enjoyed exploring the back roads and meeting new people. Duane's passions included sports especially the Seattle Seahawks and UW Huskies football teams include being a Seahawks season ticket holder for 41 years and attending Super Bowl XL. He loved attending football games with his father and son. Duane was known for throwing fabulous Super Bowl parties for his family and friends. He was a great entertainer who loved talking to people and relished as a master storyteller with his life experiences and remarkable knowledge.
Duane’s humor, caring, and presence will be missed by all who loved and cared for him.
