Elsie Brons, very beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away March 6, 2018 at age 91 of natural causes. She is survived by three children - daughters Judy Brons and Jerrie Hammie, and son Roy Brons - and four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Elsie was born in Turtle Lake, North Dakota on February 27, 1927 to Gustav and Anna Marie Graf. At age 2, her family moved to a farm near the small town of Regan, North Dakota. Elsie was one of seven sisters and four brothers, and growing up on the farm kept her busy. Besides going to school, she had chores to do from dawn to dusk. During her teenage years, she left the farm to work in several towns in North Dakota.
At age 19, she took a trip to Seattle to visit a sister, and while there, she met Kenneth Brons. They were married a year later, on July 12, 1947. They moved to Edmonds in 1948, and to Lynnwood in 1953. Ken worked as a brickmason his entire career until retirement, and Elsie and Ken were able to celebrate 66 years of marriage together. Ken passed away in November 2013.
While Elsie was a good wife and mother, her outstanding characteristic was having a “big heart”, selflessly caring for family whenever they were in need, showing it through her actions. Family was the center of her life.
In her 80’s after Ken had passed away, Elsie had suffered two massive strokes, which she mostly recovered from. But she needed 24-hour care for some of her needs. Now all of her caring for her family was returned to her. Few families would do what Elsie’s family did for her, with the children and grandchildren all taking turns staying with her in her house. Her primary caregiver was a great-granddaughter accompanied by her infant great-great granddaughter. Elsie, who always loved children, was now living together with this infant, being with her as she was growing up, and this greatly brightened her final years.
