

Born in Hanover, Ontario, Canada, on July 31, 1925, Hank was the son of Gordon Henry August Schilling and Marie (Mary) Fredericka Wilhelmina Beckenhauer.
Hank was preceded in death by: his dearly beloved wife, Lucy Ethel (Earl) Schilling; father, Gordon Schilling; mother, Mary (Schilling) Logie; step father, John Logie, and brothers: Marvyn Logie, Arnold Logie, and Kenneth (Ken) Schilling.
Hank’s dad passed away in July, 1929 and they moved in with his mother’s parents. His mom remarried a farmer, John Logie in 1934. Hank's brother, Ken, liked farming, but Hank dreamed of flying. At 14 he finished grade 10, the highest grade-level offered. Later he finished high school through the military.
At 14 Hank moved in with his Grandpa and Grandma Schilling. He worked hard, and eventually had the opportunity to to attend aircraft mechanic school and get a job building planes at Fleet Aircraft in Fort Erie, Ontario.
During World War II, Hank enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. The war was coming to a close and pilot training was abruptly discontinued. After he was discharged from the Air Force, he joined the Canadian Army. The war ended before he was deployed overseas. After the war, he went back to work at Fleet Aircraft. His boss encouraged him, and he decided to attend a 3 year Aeronautical Engineering course at The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in Calgary, Alberta.
One day he stopped in to the local flying club to rent an airplane with a friend. He noticed the cute office girl with pretty eyes and a beautiful smile. Her name was Ethel. She was also taking flying lessons. Flying dates, turned into courting and courting to talks of marriage.
Hank and Ethel were married in 1948 and sealed in June, 1949, in the Cardston Alberta Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They immigrated to the United States in September, 1949–and ended up in Seattle, Washington. Hank continued to pursue his goal of becoming a pilot and was eventually hired by United Airlines. This opportunity led the family to relocate to the Chicago, Illinois area, and then to the San Francisco, California area (Cupertino.)
During his off hours, Hank could be found with family and friends, sailing, playing guitar, fixing cars, or flying. He served 2 part-time missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in various duties over the years. Hank and Ethel moved to Mukilteo in 1992 , where they lived the past 29 years. His beloved wife, Ethel, passed away last year August, 2020. Hank is survived by 5 children: Gordon (Kathleen) Schilling, Karilee (Ned) Witting, Wendy (Phil) Sorensen, Laurie (Rich) Tygerson, and Jerry Schilling; 14 Grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Besides his direct family, Hank leaves behind many cherished friends and extended family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Private family funeral services will be conducted via zoom at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 4th by Bishop Kaku of The Harbour Pointe Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will follow at the Floral Hills Cemetery, Lynnwood, Washington.
