

James (Jim) F. Shramek, Jr., 92, passed away on Friday afternoon, June 30, 2017. Jim was born in Chicago on May 30th, 1925 to Jeannette and James F. Shramek, Sr.; their second child and only son. When he was 12 years old the family moved to Holland, Michigan where he graduated from high school in 1943 and then joined the army during WWII. After an honorable discharge, he attended Hope College in his home town of Holland Michigan. A couple of years later he was joined by his sweetheart, Paula, at the college and on Nov. 22, 1950 they were married. After his graduation they decided to move to Chicago where Jim would go into the insurance business and they could start a family. Jim worked diligently as a salesman and soon owned his own insurance agency after moving to Waukegan, Illinois. He was an active member of the American Legion and the Kiwanis, Elk’s, and Swedish Glee Clubs. He enjoyed golfing, doing handyman projects around the house and three week summer vacations driving the family to over 40 states as well as Canada and Mexico. Jim had promised Paula that when he retired they would move to Seattle where Paula was born and raised. In 1987 they bought a home in the town of Mill Creek, 20 miles north of Seattle, and made the long awaited move. Sadly, after nearly 55 years of marriage, Paula passed away on Oct. 27, 2005. His sister Dorothy Carley, also passed before him on Feb. 6, 2006. Jim is survived by his four children: Linda Brown, James Shramek, Paulette Schuster, and Deborah Shramek as well as three grandchildren: Tiffany Brown, Stephanie Schuster, and Christopher Schuster. Viewing was held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood WA 98036-4934. Funeral services and interment to followed.
