Jeffrey was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Marjorie Pendergraft and Charles Evans; the oldest of four sons. Jeff's family moved to the Los Angeles area when he was 12 years old, where he met his future wife, Penny Lee, as a young teenager.
Jeff was a decorated Army Veteran who served our country proudly, including a combat tour of Vietnam. A fellow 119th Assault Helicopter Company member remembers Jeff, as "a great crew chief, well respected by fellow crew members and pilots."
On February 16th, 1970, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Jeff married the love of his life and longtime sweetheart, Penny. Jeff and Penny had many adventures together including sailing to Catalina Island, joining a humanitarian visit to Cuba, meeting many Hollywood legends, and welcoming their children Michelle and Christopher.
Jeff's love of sailing and flying continued throughout his life. He enjoyed soaring glider planes; building and flying model airplanes; and sailing. Jeff never missed an opportunity to travel to Hawaii where he loved the great weather, food and drinks, music, and most importantly, relaxing and enjoying time with his greatest love of all; his family and friends.
Jeff is survived by Penny, his beloved wife of 52 years; his mother Marjorie; his children Michelle (David) and Chris (Courtney); his brothers Russell, Michael, and Scott; his three grandchildren (soon to be four); many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles, and stepfather, Bill.
A Celebration of Jeff's Life will take place on Saturday, August 6th.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jeff's name to an organization that was close to his heart. Northwest Battle Buddies gifts professionally trained service dogs to veterans battling PTSD, helping them regain their freedom and independence.
