Jeff was born on June 25th 1958, in Wilmington, Delaware, to parents Leonard Gears and Dorris Childress. Jeff spent most of his youth growing up in Wilmington, Newark and Newcastle, Delaware.
Jeff enlisted in the Navy in 1976 as a Torpedoman. After a year stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, he would go on to see much of the Pacific stationed on his beloved USS Prairie. In 1980 he was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan, where he would meet his wife Vicki Frazier. Jeff and Vicki lived together in Japan for 5 years, before they were both discharged from Service. After his final cruise aboard the USS Enterprise, he relocated to Vicki’s home, Mountlake Terrace, Washington. Jeff and Vicki were married on October 31st, 1985, and started a family.
Jeff was a devoted letter carrier with the Kirkland Post Office for 23 years before retiring in 2020. In retirement, he loved to travel, spend time at the family lot in Granite Falls, and enjoy his four grandchildren.
Jeff was incredibly proud of his family, and he is survived by his Wife, Vicki Gears; sister, Evelyn Curcio; his two children, Zach Gears and Katrina Gears, and their spouses Jennifer Gears and Jace Holmlund; and his four grandchildren, Cameron, Finnley, London, and Sophia. Jeff will be remembered as someone incredibly loving, and always ready with a joke. We all miss him very much.
A memorial service for Jeffrey will be held Friday, June 16, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, WA 98036.
