9 June 1952 – 28 May 2020
On May 28th 2020, the world lost a precious wife, mother, grandmother and friend when Johnna Ann Schroer of Bothell, Washington lost her battle with cancer.
Johnna’s journey that began on the 9th of June 1952 in Seattle, Washington as one of 5 children born to the union of her parents, Mildred and John Ryan.
Johnna grew up in Burien, graduating from Highline High and right out of high school, she went to work for an Insurance Company. And it was during these years that Johnna was blessed with her first child Tonya, who was born on July 8th 1970.
5 years later, Johnna played on a softball team that practiced in a field adjacent to where her future husband-to-be, Ken Schroer played rugby.
6 months later, Ken & Johnna were marred on 6 December 1975.
First, they moved to Bismarck, North Dakota for a few years due to Ken’s job with the government. There, Johnna attended college, earning a degree in accounting, all while continuing to play softball. Then, they moved to Burien and then to Mill Creek.
While living in Mill Creek, they were blessed with their daughter Heather, who was born January 5th 1979 and their son James, who was born November 7th 1982. And when the growing family moved to Bothell, they had another son Gerrit, who was born November 20th 1989.
When Gerrit first started playing soccer, his mom immediately learned to be a coach, so she could coach his team. Bowling was another sport that Johnna was absolutely passionate about – and it became a huge part of her life.
Her daughter, Heather started working at the Bowling Alley in 1996, and a few years later, Johnna went to work there as well – starting at the front desk, then becoming the Operations Supervisor, which she held until she could work no longer.
But well before ever working at the bowling alley, Johnna was on a lady’s bowling league. They were called the “Morning Delights”, and Johnna was the League Secretary. She just loved to bowl and all of the activities that went along with it, such as their annual trips to Las Vegas in June for bowling tournaments.
Johnna had many wonderful attributes and qualities that made her loved by many. She was everyone’s “mom” and she was always there for you, no matter what. She was very caring and giving and had a loving heart that will be missed by all who knew her.
Johnna is preceded in death by her mother Mildred Ryan and sisters Waneta Demarais & Cherill Scott.
Those who remain to cherish Johnna’s memory include:
• Her Father – John and brothers, Patrick & Randy Ryan
• Her beloved husband of 44 years – Ken Schroer
• Her children – Tonya, Heather (with Derek), James & Gerrit
• Her grandchildren – Jenna, Jessica & Kyle and
• Her great-grandchildren – Tillian, Theodore & Tabitha.
Funeral services will be held on what would have been Johnna’s 68th birthday on 9 June 2020 at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills in Lynnwood.
A Celebration of Life event will be held at a later undetermined date.
We will miss Johnna. And we will treasure her deeply in our hearts, forever.
