Karl lived a life filled with purpose, curiosity, and love. Karl was a proud graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Class of 1992. He served his country with honor and dedication, earning the rank of Lieutenant before his honorable discharge. He went on to pursue a long and successful career in IT and systems engineering. Known for his intelligence, thoughtfulness, and problem-solving mind, Karl was someone people could count on — both at work and in life.
Karl embraced the world and its challenges with a sense of wonder. He found peace in nature, chaos in his jeep, and creativity behind a camera lens. He always had a new song to share and an adventure planned. Karl’s dedication to all adaptive sports, especially wheelchair basketball, reflected his strength and determination. He was a fierce and joyous athlete; he especially loved the camaraderie and support of the adaptive sports community which brought him lasting friendship and joy.
Above all, Karl’s proudest and most cherished role was being a father. There is nothing Karl loved in this life more than his children— Jay (partner Reb), Dan (wife Anna), and Luke (longtime girlfriend Lexie). His love for them was unconditional and steady, his guidance always gentle and wise. To them, he was not only a parent, but a friend, adventure buddy, and constant source of unwavering support.
Karl is also survived by his father, Ken; his brother, Kevin (Shawna) Robinson; his sister, Cindy Potter; his beloved partner, Melissa Hyman; and his best friend and mother of his children, Nancy. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and dear friends who already remember his warmth, humor, and kindness.
Karl will be remembered for his quiet strength, his generosity of spirit, and the way he made others feel seen and valued. His memory will live on through the love he shared and the lives he touched.
