

Born on February 3,1938 in Seoul, Korea, Ki Young was the son of Sung Gil Kim and Byung In Kim. He spent his life devoted to family, career, faith, and community.
Ki Young Kim is survived by his wife: Soon Ai Kim, his children: Sky Kim, Jean Yi, Dania Lee, and his grandchildren: Grace Yi, Rainier Lee, Ashlyn Lee, Calysta Lee, Carmyn Lee.
Ki Young attended Dae Kwang High School and graduated from Yonsei University. In 1963, he came to the United States as an international student and enrolled at Memphis State University, where he earned a master’s degree in business. He married in 1964 while living in Memphis. During that time, he opened a Taekwondo school, teaching students in the community and providing specialized instruction to the local police academy.
In 1969, he moved to Los Angeles and worked in the export business at Daewoo. In 1983, he relocated with his family to Bellevue, Washington, where he founded the U.S. branch of Sunshine Trading Company, an exporter of logs. He served as president of the U.S. branch and led the company with dedication and integrity. In 2017, he and his wife moved to Lynnwood, Washington.
Throughout his life, Ki enjoyed sports including tennis, golf, fishing, and soccer. Soccer was his greatest and longest-lasting passion in terms of sports. He served as captain of the Korean men’s Morning Soccer Team, which remained together for an extraordinary 40 years, reflecting his leadership, loyalty, and strong sense of community.
Those who knew him will remember him for his patience, kindness, humor, dedication, and deep love of family.
A funeral service will be held on December 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Purdy and Walters Funeral Home in Lynnwood, Washington.
