Kitty Clemans, age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, October 16, 2017 at her home in Quail Park of Lynnwood. She was born on March 27, 1928 to Wilbur and Grace Stevens of Snohomish, WA, the first of four children. She is preceded in death by her parents as well as her sisters, Caroline Stjern and Dorothy Stecher, and survived by her brother sonny Stevens, all of Snohomish, WA.
As a child and the oldest sibling, she always took on the role of care giver to her siblings and all the neighborhood kids. As a teenager, she worked at the Snohomish movie theatre as an usher as well as at JC Penney on first street in Snohomish. Kitty was the captain of the drill team at Snohomish High school where she graduated in 1946. Even in her last few days, she would quote the cheer…”Red, white, fight, fight! Who fight, we fight, Snohomish Panthers fight, fight!”
Kitty met Jim Clemans when she was 16 at a Christmas dance when he was home on leave from the Navy. They wrote piles of letters to each other when he returned to Treasure Island, CA where he was stationed. Then at 18, Kitty married Jim, the love of her life on December 28, 1946 in a big ceremony at the Snohomish Episcopal Church. After their honeymoon, the two moved to Ellensburg, WA where Jim attended Central Washington University on the GI bill. While living in Ellensburg, they had their first child, Mike in 1948. Once finished with college they moved to Lynnwood, WA where Jim began teaching and Kitty had their second child, Jenny in 1950. When Mike was 16 and Jenny was 14, Kitty had their third child Patty in 1964. Kitty worked at Edmonds School District as well as Jim, as a secretary where she retired in 1980.
Kitty was an avid crocheter and loved to make towels to hang in your kitchen. She also enjoyed bowling and going to movies. She loved to travel whenever she could, to places like Turkey, England, Hawaii, Alaska, New England, North Carolina, Alabama, and her favorite, California, where her daughter Jenny lives.
Family meant everything to Kitty and Kitty meant everything to her family!!! She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother anyone could ask for! We are comforted in knowing she is back in the arms of her Jimmy and dancing once again!
Kitty is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim Clemans back in 2002. She is survived by her son Mike Clemans(Martha) of Lynnwood and her daughters Jenny Willey(Gary) of Morgan Hill, CA and Patty Lawrence(Jay) of Camano Island. She also leaves her eight granddaughters, Lisa Chiolis of Pleasanton, CA, Michole Mattix(Chris) of Edmonds, Monica Remmen(Rob) of Lake Stevens, Jackie Murdaugh(Brett) of Hollister, CA, Renee Reed(Kevin) of McArthur, CA, Kaitlin Lawrence of Bow, Leslie Lawrence of Camano Island, and Emily Lawrence of Camano Island, as well as her twelve great grandchildren, Jessilyn(Milt) Wallace, William Strom, Danika Strom, Ainslee Mattix, Adison Mattix, Jade Remmen, Jared Murdaugh, Kacie Murdaugh, Kendall Murdaugh, Colton Reed, Colby Reed, and Cal Reed, and finally by five great great grandchildren, LeAnne, Emerie, Zayden, Rayah, and Zoey.
