Religious background was Catholic
Leroy had 3 bothers – Dale, Dennis, and Cleo
Leroy had 6 sisters – Virginia, Betty, Donna, Lyla, Kathy, and Eni
Leroy had 3 sons, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Leroy attended school through the 6th grade. At age 11 or 12 he began to work full time on the family grain farm. As a young adult, his parents especially his father instilled hard work ethics. They always had a special relationship.
Around age 14 the family moved to Bothell Washington. Leroy went to work at the cemetery with his father until around age 20. He then started at Jay Mills Construction Company and learned how to operate track hoes and equipment. Moved onto Three Way Construction as a heavy equipment operator and joined the union. He retired at Seaport Construction around age 66 which was only due to an auto accident. Otherwise he was not ready to retire.
Leroy each Sunday after his father came home from church would pick him up and they would go to the local dump. Then back home where his mother would fix the Sunday Super for all the family.
Leroy met the love of his life when we was 17. At the time, his brother Cleo was dating Vera but when they met, it was a life time of love. May 27th, 1954 on a $10 bet, ran away and were married. Unsure of how long it was, but their parents did not even know they went off and got married. When Leroy’s parents found out, and Leroy was no longer going to hand over his paychecks, they took his car. As they were both new at this, together the learned how to build a life and family.
Leroy Boser Jr “Jay” was born 4/1954. He has a son Jayson married to Shauna. He also has a step daughter Susie married to Jason and their son Ethan.
Ricky Boser “Rick” was born 4/1956. He has three children; Ricky and his son Seth. Miles and Jackie with her wife Tiffany.
Jerry Boser was born 5/1961. Jerry’s wife Vicki and their son Raymond. They have two grandchildren Ahryah and Autumn.
Leroy enjoyed watching his boys play football on Friday night, come rain or shine, he was there watching them. He instilled the same hard working ethics in his sons and some lesson where a little tougher but mama would let him know when to draw the line.
There are lots of words to describe Leroy: Temper, Stubborn, and Onry. He was also very giving, loving and very much loved having his family around. To the ladies, he was a teddy bear and loved his hugs. To his grandchildren he was always a softy.
Leroy enjoyed his Seahawks and was a lifetime season ticket holder. Every Sunday morning, Rick and Leroy would have breakfast and head down the game. They continued the morning breakfasts after Vera passed. Nascar racing (GO JIMMY), horseshoes with the family. He loved fireworks and 4th of July dinners we had several until we tried setting the neighbors roof on fire. His favorite singers were Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, loved his Blue Grass. Loved watching his Western Movies, Bones and Castle.
Around 1965, the family was involved with auto racing. Car number #11 and he really enjoyed the race track.
Leroy being from German descent, was raised on German food. Vera had to learn from Maria some of his favorites. German Potato Dumplings, Homemade Noodles, Sauerkraut, head cheese, picked pigs feet, pickled eggs, and Kielbasa. In the later years, he was known for drinking Coca Cola like water. He had plenty of water around, for the dog and bird.
He loved his dogs and birds. He would train his dogs, you would think they were part human. Dog Dog is already missing him. He would tell him what to do, and he would do it. Dancing and walking then Leroy would hand feed him his dinner. He had a very special relationship with his animals all through the years.
His pride was his yard and his wonderful garden every year. We could not wait to start enjoying the wonderful bounty that came from it. He loved giving it away to others once his fridge was full. Each year, they would can pickles which were the best in the world. No other pickles could compare. They would can other foods as well, but the pickles are what we waited for.
Leroy always was moving doing something. In the house, down into the cellar, in the back room, out in the yard then back to his chair. Up to the last days, this continued and had to be going going going. He would go to bed around eight then back up at two. He would make his coffee and play on his laptop casino games before he started his day. Loved his casino games and watching the bonus’s rack up, This put such a great big smile on this face. When we was able to play at the Casino, he just had a ball.
As dad had to keep moving, doing something or going somewhere, it was over a year ago, when Jay was pruning. He stepped away for a moment and Dad being Dad, climbed the ladder to trim the wisteria too. He fell and collapsed a lung including several broken bones. This was the start of his health problems as his lung never really healed from the damage. He continued to have medical issues and required personal care even though he didn’t think so. Tammy starting coming into the home and ensuring he had the right medication, doctor visits, helped around the home and cooking. This was a god send to have her care for Leroy, her Uncle with such compassion. I hope she truly understands how much this meant to us. We know, putting up with him was not easy, allowing others to do for him other than Mom, was very hard for him to allow.
Leroy passed away May 14th, on mother’s day. I cannot help but think, this was his gift to her. As Vera passed 6/7/2013, every day he missed her and could not wait to be with her again. They were together over 64 years as one. Every day he would visit Vera, but after a couple of years, his health changed not allowing him to drive. With the help of his boys, we was able to visit each Wednesday and Sunday. On one knee would tell her how much he loved her and give her a kiss.
A few days prior to him passing, he was having a conversation with Vera. I truly believe Mom was letting him know, it is now time for you to come home.
