Lois Christine Pearson left this earth to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 4, 2011. She is survived by her husband of 75 years, Jim; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Lucette Pearson of Cashmere, WA; daughter, Lorraine Beckman of Sharpsburg, GA; grandson, Jarod Petersen, presently stationed in San Antonio, TX with the U.S. Army and her beloved extended family of sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lois was born to Nellie and Roy Hampton March 5, 1920 in Wenatchee, WA. The family later moved to the Seattle area where she attended school but eventually returned to Wenatchee where she met Jim. They were married there April 27, 1936. Three or four years later Jim and Lois moved to Bothell, WA where they have lived ever since.
During World War II Lois worked at the shipyard in Kirkland while Jim was away serving in the U. S. Navy. A true “Rosie the Riveter”!
Lois lived a full and diverse life having many interests. She was a fabulous cook – and loved doing it – and fortunate were those invited to share a meal at their home. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and enjoyed making Scandinavian goodies, especially cardamon bread and Norwigen Fruit soup. Adding to her culinary resume’ she became a restaurant review columnist for the Northshore Citizen newspaper in the mid-80s. When her mother was a resident at a convalescent home, Lois would not only take treats to her mom, but make enough to share with ALL the residents
Lois was a very social person and made friends wherever she went. Throughout her life she organized baby showers, bridal showers, birthday parties, anniversary parties and was the facilitator for a senior lunch bunch at her church.
God blessed Lois with many talents. She had a lovely singing voice which everyone enjoyed and was always eager to strike up a tune with a friend or family member. Lois wrote the lyrics to a song which her son Steve sang and recorded. She was also a prolific poet. All one had to do was ask her for a poem or limerick for a special occasion and it was ready within hours. Most of her poetry was spiritual and inspirational and many have been blessed with her writings.
Lois had a brilliant mind, right up to the end. In earlier days if Lois attended a party where games were played, other guests would groan because she always won! If you ever needed to know how to spell a word, you needn’t check with Webster, just call her! Those who knew her best also knew she was the “Grammar Czar” – woe unto you if you misused a word or mispronounced it!!
A wonderful sense of humor always flowed from Lois. She loved a silly joke or a practical joke and was a very witty woman. Not only was she witty but she was certainly her own person! When asked what the words “The Color Purple” means to them, most people would respond it was either a book or a movie. But if you were to ask anyone who knew her, they would say, “You must be talking about Lois Pearson”. Who else do you know at 90 years old who could wear purple alligator cowboy boots and look great in them!
Of all the attributes named previously, Lois would want to be remembered most for her faith in – and her love for – Jesus Christ. She lovingly shared her faith with others, joyfully leading some to follow Him. Her daughter Lorraine coined a phrase sometime ago – “a cool God thing” and Lois eagerly shared the cool God things the Lord had done in her life. Her prayer was to see all of you again in heaven.
