Maria Lucia Medina

Lucy was born on January 28, 1953 in San Luís Potosí, Mexico to parents Isidro and Elva Medina. She immigrated to the United States with her parents when she was 6 months old. She moved to Tulsa, OK in 1953.

She went to Will Rogers High School in Tulsa, OK and graduated in 1971. She attended the University of Oklahoma from 1971-1975, then Harvard Medical School where she earned her Doctorate of Medicine in 1980.

She married R. Wayne Yerkes, June 11, 1983 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After moving to Seattle, Washington in 1983 she went into private practice as a pediatrician. She also worked for the King County Public Health Department as a pediatrician from 1984 - 1997. When not volunteering at her children’s schools, she enjoyed photography, gardening, and reading. She was an avid knitter, and bled Oklahoma Sooner crimson and cream until her death.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Isidro and Elva Medina. She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, R .Wayne Yerkes, and children Lupita Yerkes Medina, Felipe Yerkes Medina, and Paco Yerkes Medina.

A funeral memorial mass will be held in Lucy’s honor on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 11am at St. Luke Catholic Church – 322 N 175th St. Shoreline, WA.
