He graduated from Snohomish High School in 1946. He was interested in aviation and took pilot lessons for several months, eventually soloing the Taylor Craft airplane he took lessons in. He enjoyed learning about different kinds of aircraft and attending airshows throughout his life.
After high school he went on to work for the forest service and other lines of work before beginning his long career in power line construction in 1952.
He married Doris in 1958 and they were together until her death in 1994. Together they raised three children, Mark, Marla and Matt. They were also blessed with six grandchildren, Isaac, Jennifer, Tyler, Ian, Trevor and Mitchell.
During his long career in power line construction, he worked on crews that built high power transmission lines throughout the northwest.
The family lived in a small trailer on property in Redmond. During weekends and after work, Marvin and Doris together built the family home on the same property.
During his working years, there was little time for vacations, but Marvin enjoyed gardening and he and Doris would spend occasional weekends fishing at Sekiu and the San Juan Islands.
A few years after Doris’ death in 1994, Marvin found love and companionship again with Barbara Pulliam (Bobbi), with whom he lived until her death in 2015. During winters, they enjoyed the warmth and sun in Yuma, Arizona. They enjoyed spending time with their friends and went on cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska and Mexico.
Marvin passed away on September 21, 2021 at his home in Marysville, Washington. He died peacefully in his sleep. He is survived by his children Mark, Marla and Matt; his grandchildren Isaac, Jennifer, Tyler, Ian, Trevor and Mitchell and his great-grandchildren Keean, Indigo, Addie, Henry, Ephram and Sebastian. Services were held at Purdy and Walters at Floral Hills and he was laid to rest in Floral Hills Cemetery alongside his wife, Doris.
