Marvin Howard Sims

Born on November 23, 1935, in Boone, North Carolina, to Howard and Cynthia Sims, Marvin spent most of his life in Lynnwood, Washington, where he built both his career and a wide circle of lifelong friends. He began working as a young delivery man on a motorbike before building a successful career as a sewer contractor. Marvin took great pride in honest work, earning the respect of colleagues throughout the contracting community through his dedication, integrity, and strong work ethic.

Outside of work, Marvin embraced the outdoors and the friendships that came with his favorite pastimes. He was an accomplished championship trapshooter with many accolades. Alongside his beloved wife, Barbara, who was also an accomplished trapshooter. Marvin traveled extensively to trapshooting tournaments, forming lasting friendships with fellow competitors from Alaska, throughout the West Coast and Southwest, and across the country to the Grand American shoot in the Midwest. He also loved spending time fishing and, in later years, often joked that one of his favorite hobbies was simply "staying warm."

Marvin had a remarkable gift for storytelling. Whether gathered with family or surrounded by friends, he could always be counted on to share a funny story or one of his hysterical jokes that left everyone laughing. His quick wit, warm smile and ability to make people feel welcome were among the qualities that made him so loved. His friendships were many, and his stories will continue to be shared for years to come.

Marvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara. He is survived by his children, Shannon Aylesworth (Jon); Shelly Richards; and Cody Sims. He had six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and numerous friends.

Marvin will be remembered for the life he lived, the friendships he made, the laughter he shared, His legacy of hard work, resilience and humor, will continue to those fortunate enough to know him.
