Our dear and beloved mother, sister, and friend, Mirasol Santos Manlangit, passed away early on the morning of May 22, 2020 and joined the Lord and our father in heaven. Mirasol, better known to all as Myra, is survived by her two children, Michelle and Earl, and twelve siblings Olivia, Reming, Erling, Danny, Celso, Nerissa, Junior, Arnel, Vic, Larry, Evelyn, and Marleen. She has five beautiful grandchildren: Sofia 9 years old, Miles 5 years old, Julian 2 years old, Ethan 2 years old, and Teddi 1 year old.
Myra was the fourth child of thirteen to Porfirio and Leonida Santos and grew up in the neighborhood of Caingin in San Rafael, Bulacan in the Philippines. She was a very outgoing and independent child, unique in such a full household. Myra attended the Philippine College of Commerce and received a business degree. After getting married, Myra and her new husband, Ed, came to the US to raise their new family. Michelle, their eldest daughter, was born in the first year of moving to Lynnwood, Washington. Their youngest son, Earl, was born 5 years later. Myra was so proud of her children and loved her grandchildren so much. Myra and Ed later divorced but remained good friends and wonderful parents and grandparents together.
Myra worked as a clerk for Blue Cross for a few years before really finding her calling. She opened a small Filipino grocery store in Shoreline called D'Unik Gift Shoppe and Oriental Foods and ran her business successfully and with love. Serving the Filipino community that embraced and helped her when her family first came here was her joy. She loved people and her smile and personality was warm and infectious. She graciously served food and goods from her homeland and was a staple in the North Seattle area. After decades of running D'Unik, her health began to fail her. Myra worked less and less at the store, but still kept in touch with the community she held so dear.
The last few years of her life have been fraught with a difficult battle with lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, and rheumatoid arthritis. She did her best to put on her beautiful smile to hide her symptoms and ailments while she suffered physically, mentally and emotionally. She did this especially to protect her children and grandchildren. She was so brave and so courageous for all of us. She came to everyone’s rescue and helped as much as she could time and time again regardless of what she herself was experiencing.
Through all this however, and throughout her entire life really, she brought light and love to everyone she met and everyone she loved. Compassionate and intelligent, warm and welcoming, she handled everything with grace and treated everyone with respect and with love. She loved to travel and watch variety shows from the Philippines. She loved music and one of her favorite artists was Celine Dion.
The family was emotionally preparing to celebrate the two year anniversary of Ed's passing, but the Lord had something else more challenging for them and put an end to the difficult suffering Myra had been enduring for the past few years, especially in the last couple of months of isolation trying to keep her safe. Both Myra and Ed, passed on the same date of May 22.
Myra is and will be deeply missed by all of us because she was such a beautiful and compassionate and sweet soul who wanted nothing but the best for everyone. There is not another soul in the world like her.
