Muriel Elaine (Brand) Thurman was born April 21, 1925, in Hutchison, Minnesota, to Fred and Ida Brand. She passed away on September 28, 2015 in Everett, Washington. She was 90 years old.
Muriel was the oldest of seven children. She left home in 1945 and took a job at Todd shipyards in Seattle, Washington as a welder. She was a Rosie Riveter during the war. She traveled to California that same year and met Robert Thurman. The two were married in 1946. They had three children, Dennis, Sandra and Catherine. As a military family they started traveling and in 1949 they moved to Hawaii where her husband was stationed. In 1954 they moved back to the mainland to Nebraska. From there they went to Alaska in 1955 until. In 1960 they went to Monterey, California until 1963. The next stop for them was Vietnam. They returned to Alameda, California at the end of 1963 and were there until 1965. They purchased a home in Mountlake Terrace, Washington in 1965 where she remained until 1995. She moved to Maryville and lived with her daughter Sandra and her husband until 2011. She then moved to her daughter Catherine's home where she remained until her passing.
Muriel was a vibrant, fun loving, and friendly woman. She enjoyed socializing and meeting new people. Her family was the center of her world and she made all of them her priority.
Muriel leaves behind a very loving and very close family as she is survived by her daughter Catherine Borries and her husband Michael. She was preceded in death by her son Dennis Thurman and her daughter Sandra Hegre (John). She also leaves behind her many grandchildren, Sandra’s children, Michele and Michael Clark, Catherine’s children, Scott Blair (Beverley), Charles Beard and Gerald Borries, her great grandchildren, Amber (Kyle), Joy, Billy, Sammy, Charity and Great Great grandchildren, Logan, Jasper and Paetyn.
