Philip John Campbell was born March 4, 1947 in Waterloo, Iowa to parents Paul Robert Campbell and Virginia Catherine Feller. With his father working for the railroad, Phil grew up in various locations including Waterloo, Fort Dodge, Albert Lea, and Cedar Rapids where he graduated from Washington High School in 1965. Phil enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family.
Phil started college at the University of Northern Iowa. He transferred to Iowa State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Resource Management for Outdoor Recreation. He served as a Student Body Government senator for Iowa State. He was a member of Xi Sigma Pi, an honorary society for scholarship.
Phil worked for the National Park Service for over 41 years as a law enforcement ranger and park manager. Parks where Phil worked included National Capital Parks East, Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, Lake Chelan National Recreation Area, Niobrara and Missouri Scenic Rivers, and Obed Wild and Scenic River. He retired from the National Park Service April 1, 2009.
Phil's first marriage was to Elaine Carol Hamilton on March 1, 1969. Paul Charles Campbell and Samuel Wyatt Campbell were born to this union. Phil's second marriage was to Nancy Jean Weiss on April 5, 1986. Colin Michael Campbell was born to this union.
Phil enjoyed birdwatching, hiking, cross-country skiing, hunting, fishing, and reading. He was a member of the Audubon Society, Tennessee Citizens for Wilderness Planning, and led hikes for the Sierra Club. He was a lifelong Catholic and did the readings in church.
Phil was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He attended his son's games and performances, and was active in their lives. He had a good sense of humor and enjoyed laughing and spending time with family and friends.
Philip died August 30, 2023 at the age of 76. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Weiss Campbell, first wife Elaine Hamilton, sons Paul Charles Campbell (Lora Pastwick), Samuel Wyatt Campbell (Katie Miller), Colin Michael Campbell (Alexandra Scheck), four grandchildren, Heather, Holly, Lily and Laurel, his brother Bill Campbell (Deb), sister Barbara Campbell-Buse (Greg), brother-in-law Jim Hennessey, and many cousins, nephews, nieces and their children. He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Virginia Campbell, brother John Campbell, sister Patricia Hennessey, and infant sister Catherine.

A Funeral Mass will be held for Philip John Campbell on Monday, September 25th at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2316 180th St. SE, Bothell, WA 98012.
