Richard William Buck Jr was born in Detroit, Michigan November 19, 1940, to Richard William Buck Sr and Priscilla Peters Buck. He passed away on February 16, 2018 in Olympia WA surrounded by his wife and children and listening to his favorite music.
Richard, an only child, grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and was a proud graduate of the University of Michigan, getting his Masters in Business in 1965. Richard met his wife in 1960 on a camping trip at Crooked Lake. He was in college and she in nursing school. They were married in 1963, and had four children including their beloved son Ricky.
Richard loved cars and spent most of his career working for Ford as a finance manager. Later in his career, he worked in consumer credit counseling, and then as a driver’s education teacher, enjoying a chance to help others. Richard was an avid music lover; he played the piano and loved listening to Elvis (loudly). He enjoyed painting, collecting coins, model trains and caring for animals, especially his Persian cats and Koi fish. His days off were spent tending to the yard and cruising in the Mustang. His sense of humor (and downright silly side), quick wit, perseverance, unique approach to and love of life were ever present. Richard’s first love and concern was always his family. He passed on that silly side and love of life to his growing family- kids, grandkids and chosen family members.
Richard is survived by his wife Louise, daughter Catherine, daughter Julie and her husband Patrick, son Jeff and his wife Margaret , daughter Cindy, and grandchildren Matthias, Genevieve, Hannah, Annelise, Grace, and Adam, his cousin Elizabeth Baker, his Uncle Jack Peters, and his childhood friend Carl Hammond.
A loving husband and father, with the biggest heart, Richard will be very dearly missed.
A service for Richard will be held at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, Lynnwood, on February 23, at 3:00pm.
