Rita Sue Wilson was born on January 15, 1948, in Springfield, Missouri, to Jack W. Crider and Betty A. Crider (Vander Took). When she was just two years old, Rita moved with her parents and younger brother, Ron, to Seattle, Washington, where her family later grew to include two more brothers, Gary and Craig.
Education and Early Adulthood
Rita graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1966. She enjoyed participating in the Drum Corps, spending time with friends, and attending parties. Soon after, she married Rick Mills, and together they had two children, Joanne and Corporal. In May 1970, Rita began a lengthy and successful career as a data security manager at Safeco Insurance, retiring in December 2005.
New Passions and Partnerships
At the age of 40, Rita discovered her love for golf—a sport that quickly became a favorite. Through golf, she met her second husband, William (Bill) Wilson. Together, they embraced an active lifestyle, enjoying golf, bowling, card games, parties, travel for Bill’s ship reunions, and family visits. They were also regulars at the Lynnwood Rec Center, where Rita especially loved the people and the river pool.
Community Involvement
Rita was committed to her community, serving in various leadership roles. She participated on the boards of the WSWPLA and the 211 Golf Club, and acted as president of the Nature’s Walk HOA, guiding major remodels and repair initiatives.
Facing Challenges with Courage
On May 16, 2025, Rita was diagnosed with ALS. This difficult news led her to sell her home and move to assisted living. Even so, she stayed socially engaged, meeting new friends and welcoming visits from her long-time circles. Together, they spent time playing Mexican Train dominos and working on countless puzzles.
A Legacy of Joy and Kindness
Rita approached each day with determination, warmth, and love. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Rita passed away on July 23, 2025, surrounded by family and friends, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and resilience.
