Robert Paul "Bob" Byrd III, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2024, with his family in attendance. Bob enjoyed a full and happy life, and his legacy continues with a deep connection to his family and his community.
Bob was born to Louise “Lou” Buell and Robert P. Byrd II on May 27, 1946, in Dodge City, Kansas. Soon after, the family moved west and landed in Yakima, WA. Bob’s early years were shared with his brothers, Douglas “Doug” and Gordon “Gordy,” creating countless memories filled with laughter and camaraderie. They were raised by their beloved single mother, Lou Byrd.
A graduate of East Valley High School (Yakima, WA) in 1964, Bob continued his higher education at Yakima Valley College until he enlisted in the US Marine Corps Reserves late in 1965. After serving in the military, Bob returned to Yakima and began his 30+ year extensive career working for the Household Finance Company.
In 1967, Bob married the love of his life, Faye Linger, in a ceremony that remains a cherished memory for family and friends who attended. Together, Bob and Faye built a life filled with love, laughter, and the hustle and bustle of raising their two children: Rob and Kari.
Bob's legacy will also continue with his grandchildren: Dakotah, Zack, and Colton. Each of them will remember their grandfather “Pops” fondly, whether he was enjoying a family gathering, cheering from the sidelines at their games, showing them how to fish, or sharing his love for music.
An avid outdoorsman, Bob found solace in the serenity of nature. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and boating with friends and family. Bob was an accomplished golfer, and he enjoyed spending countless hours with his buddies at Mill Creek Country Club. One of Bob’s favorite memories was when he helped lead the “Cougs” as one of the captains in the annual MCCC Apple Cup Tournament, which continues to grow in popularity each year. Bob also loved Maui and vacationed there with his wife Faye as often as possible.
Bob’s spirit of generosity extended beyond his family. He was a devoted member of the Everett Rotary Club for decades, and he was proud of the work that they did to support the community. Additionally, Bob, along with other dedicated Mill Creek Country Club members, worked tirelessly to improve the golf course conditions, weeding and cutting back unwanted vegetation.
Predeceased by his parents and his brother Doug, Bob's memory is honored and kept alive by his loving wife Faye, his son Rob and his wife Kathy, his daughter Kari, his cherished grandchildren, his brother Gordy and his wife Debbie, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on September 15, 2024, from 2:00 – 5:00 pm at Mill Creek Country Club (15500 Country Club Drive, Mill Creek, Washington.) In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice or to First Tee – Greater Seattle (firstteeseattle.org), a wonderful organization that supports youth golf.
Bob Byrd’s story is one of dedication, love, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community. Bob will be missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
