Bob was born on August 8th in Rupert, Idaho, to Orrin Michaelson Gardner and Norma Elaine Hansen. He spent his childhood on the family farm in Hazelton, Idaho with his sister Cheryl and brother Gary, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing in the mountains near his home and loved to go ice skating and skiing during the winter. He graduated from Valley High School before enrolling in the Aeronautics program at Utah State University. Upon graduating with a degree, he went to work for the The Boeing Company Commercial Airplane Division, where he worked from June 1966 through December 2003.
He met his future wife, Linda, while at Utah State, and they married on June 15th, 1967 in the Logan Utah Temple. They then moved to Seattle, before settling in Bothell, Washington, where they built a loving home and community for the next 50 years.
A supportive and selfless father, he raised six children in Bothell, where he was active in many components of his Church. He held several positions and ministered to many that he came in contact with. He was immensely supportive of his boys in Boy Scouts, and the girls in attending Girls Camp and other activities, sharing his spirit of service sprinkled with the engineering knowledge he had in making activities the best they could be.
His engineering abilities were well known, including building a subterranean basement under the Bothell rambler, a clubhouse for the children, and other buildings and structures that provided functionality and fun for the family. He brought that same ability to anyone that asked for his support and assistance, greatly improving their productivity and lives.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda, his parents Orrin and Elaine, and brother Gary. He is survived by his children Jason (Brian), Marcie Cain, Darin (Emily), Stephanie (Jeff) Whatmore, Jeff (Amber) and Tyler as well as many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren, who continue to honor his memory.
Services will be held Monday, November 17th at 1pm at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, WA 98036.
The family expresses deep gratitude to Ascent Adult Family home for the compassionate care provided by the staff and owner, Meron, who went above and beyond to ensure Dad’s comfort and quality of life.
