Robert Eugene Petermeyer was born March 10, 1958 in Mt Vernon, WA to Elizabeth Beasley Judge and Patrick Justin Judge. Robert's brother Bill was born about fifteen months later. Due to struggles in the marriage, Robert, age two and Bill, age one, went to live with their father's parents in Boone, Iowa, where the boys were loved and nurtured. About a year later, Robert and Bill returned to live with their parents in Seattle. Soon after, the parents divorced. Robert and Bill enjoyed visits with their father. Their mother remarried Robert (Bob) Lowel Petermeyer who adopted both boys. Sadly, when Robert was twelve, his birth father died. And when Robert was sixteen, his mother died. Bill went to live again with the grandparents in Iowa. Robert went to Job Corps in Oregon, where he earned his GED, got training in construction, and met and married Corina Garcia. They moved to Lynnwood, WA and had five children over the next twelve years. They divorced when their youngest child, Mathew, was two years old. Robert was 32. Robert continued to support and raise the children on his own.
For work after Job Corps, Robert pursued the construction industry, specifically residential framing. He continued to learn fast and well. Soon he started and successfully ran his own framing business for many years. Robert and his crews prided themselves on being the best and fastest in the area, and rumor has it, they were! Robert bought a residential lot from area builder George Brandel, and built his own home in Mukilteo, where he lived to his last day. After years of framing, Robert decided to vector into architectural home design. He became a busy, well-respected architectural home designer for the rest of his working career. Robert loved his work, both framing and design, and excelled at both. Outside of work and family, Robert's passions were fishing, boats, guns, motorcycles, the outdoors, family and later in life being a staunch Republican and avid Trump supporter.
At age 39, Robert met Victoria DeVine, who lived next door. She became his closest friend and next-door companion for the rest of his life. Robert and Victoria enjoyed many vacations together, especially to Lake Chelan and Hawaii. And they enjoyed together raising one of Robert’s grandsons for 3 ½ years. Robert believed in God and knew Christ was his Savior. He accompanied Victoria to church at times and prayed with her often. Sadly, at age 57, Robert began treatment for mild cognitive impairment and memory loss, diagnosed later as Early-Onset Alzheimer's. He remained physically strong and able, but memory and mental processing slowly declined. Family and Victoria helped Robert relax and enjoy the rest of his life.
Robert loved his family and grandchildren, his work, close friends, his kitty Sponge-Bob and Victoria. He loved lunches with best friend John Hofto, Costco runs with neighbor friend Mikel Edwards, and trips to Florida to visit dear friend Craig Terry. DoorDash runs with grandson Matthew were a light to his week. Robert was deeply grateful for son Jeffery’s extensive love and help throughout Robert’s last years and for Victoria’s constancy, patience, many helps, and love. Robert was kind, light hearted to the end, loved joking around, horsing around with grandchildren, and helping others. He was content with a simple life, and loved most of all, just being with Victoria, family, and close friends. Robert passed away peacefully on Ovtober 26, 2020. He was 62 years old.
Robert is survived by his brother Bill Judge of Urbandale, Iowa; son Robert Petermeyer Jr (Trisha) of Marysville, WA; son Patrick Judge (Christy) of Lynnwood, WA; son Jeffery Petermeyer (Nicole) of Bothell, WA; daughter Elizabeth Petermeyer; son Mathew Petermeyer (Kendal) of Lynnwood, WA; sixteen beautiful grandchildren; half¬brother Martin David of Port Townsend, WA; nephew Henry Judge of Urbandale, Iowa; aunts and uncles and many cousins.
