Robert Scott Simon

February 27, 1954 – September 18, 2026

Bob Simon, aged 72, passed away at his home in Mukilteo, Washington on September 18, 2026. He was born in Chicago, Illinois.

Bob is preceded in death by his son, Sean Simon (d. 2017), and his brother, Tim Simon (d. 2017).

He is survived by his mother, Dottie Hawkins, wife Deeann, daughter Kristi (Erik) Heideman, his adored grandchildren Carson and Mackenzie, his brother, Mike (Anne) Simon, and nephews, nieces, grandniece and grandnephew.

Bob loved many things, but family, food, travel and Pacific Seafood topped the list. He managed to merge all of his favorite things into a very full and amazing life.

After graduating high school from De La Salle Institute in Chicago, Bob joined the Navy and served on the flight deck of aircraft carriers as a Flight Electrician in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. Once he finished his service, he spent a little time in San Diego before returning home to the Seattle area and joining the world of seafood distribution.

Starting at the bottom as a warehouse helper at Pacific Fish in downtown Seattle, Bob spent the next, best, and longest chapter of his life until retirement. From warehouse helper, he went on to warehouse worker until he was promoted to packing the seafood, and then again promoted to the fillet room, where he learned to expertly cut a variety of fish. Next up, Bob delivered the fish as a driver, and since Bob has never met a stranger, he was a natural for the sales side of the fish house.

When Pacific Seafood acquired Pacific Fish, things really took off for Bob. He moved into management over the food service (restaurant) side, and then a few years later, he managed both sides of the sales team. From there it was a logical step to become General Manager over Washington, which included Mukilteo, Spokane, and eventually Tacoma. Of course, he did not stop there. He loved his career, his company, his colleagues and especially his team. Bob took on the direction of more branches, ultimately becoming Vice President of Distribution over Washington, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, and Utah before his retirement in 2022.

Bob loved his family and especially the holidays, decorating the house to the point where we needed a special circuit just for the outdoor lights. He hosted fun family Christmas Eve parties that always included an amazing seafood spread.

He truly appreciated great food, so eating out at restaurant openings and on travel was never a sacrifice. Bob was fascinated by the industry, enjoying the vibe in all the different venues.

Bob loved to travel. He flew over one million miles on Alaska Airlines alone. Between his time in the Navy, his seafood career, and personal travel, Bob traveled to all corners of the country as well as Asia, South America, much of Europe, and even Russia. He particularly loved Key West, Hawaii, and Europe.

Bob Simon was incomparable in life, and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
