

Rodney David Robinson, age 83, passed away on December 10, 2025. The son of Walter Robinson and Bernice Mink Robinson, Rod was born on January 10, 1942, in Merced, CA. Rod graduated from Merced High School in 1959. After earning a BA in psychology (1964) at the University of California at Berkeley, he pursued graduate studies in his field. He held a master’s degree in psychology (1966) from San Jose State University in San Jose CA and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology (1976) from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.
A beloved psychotherapist, counselor and teacher, Rod taught psychology at Eastern College in St. Davids, PA and served in the college counseling center. Later he worked as a therapist for a Christian counseling center in the Philadelphia area and became its director. A dedicated Christian, Rod shared his gifts with the community. He taught a popular preparation for marriage class at Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, PA, served as an elder in Lebanon Reformed Church in Lebanon, NJ, and was an active member of Lake Forest Park Presbyterian Church in Lake Forest Park, WA, where he taught in the adult education program and sang in the choir. He was a member and president of the Association of Christian Counselors and Counseling Centers, a tristate (NY, PA, NJ) organization of Christian psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors and social workers.
Rod met his wife Marsha in the UC Berkeley library. They were happily married for sixty years and the proud parents of a son, David Whalen-Robinson. Rod is survived by his wife Marsha, his son David (Brooke) Whalen-Robinson, his brother Bill (Juliann) Robinson, his sisters Kathy (Dick) Torp and Margi (Michael) Rench, and three grandchildren: Rory, Seamus and Kalliope.
Kind and caring, Rod was an exceptional person. He was loved by his family, his friends, and his patients. He will be in our hearts forever.
