Ron was born on June 15, 1932 in Ursina, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Robert and Eva Harned. Ron graduated from Rockwood High School in 1950. He was active in sports and the captain of the baseball team. All that knew Ron knew he was a hard worker and worked on the Harned farm from 1950 to 1953 after graduating from high school. It was 140 acre farm. He planted, cultivated, and harvested corn, oats, wheat and beans. He operated the tractors and was responsible for maintaining and repairs of all farm machinery.
Ron enlisted in the US Navy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on January 22, 1953 to January 17, 1957. He was trained in the US Navy as an Engineman 3, where he was assigned to the USS Savage ship during the Korean War. Ron kept the ship in supplies and spare parts for the engine department. He was in charge of handling of ships fuel, water and engine room to assure proper operation of the engines. Ron received special honors as a Korean War Veteran. He re-enlisted in the US Naval Reserves until January 21, 1961.
Ron’s death was untimely and unexpected and died at Swedish Hospital on March 7, 2017. He is survived by his three children, Sindi Tracey 59, Richard Harned 57 and Russell Harned 54. Son in laws Michael Tracey 62 and Mark Dudas 55, and grandson Kyle Harned 34. Sister Shirley DeVore 82, Gloria Johnson 76 and Brother Robert Harned age, 68.
Ron married Susan on November 19, 1960 who died in 1993 from ovarian cancer. Ron never remarried and lived in the family home until 2003. After that, he built a new home and moved to Onalaska, Washington. He purchased 5 acres and built a new home and farm. The farm was small but he had chickens, ducks, goats and cows. He started collecting old tractors and completely refurbished them like new. Ron had a real way of working with his hands and had a knack for planting and growing a nice garden each year competing growing the best tomatoes, with Uncle Joe. Ron lived alone and was fiercely independent who we all looked up to for his work ethic, leadership, wisdom and his sincere honesty.
Ron had a life that was full. He accomplished all he set out to do and truly enjoyed his lifestyle. More than anything, he wanted to join his wife Susan, in heaven, and he even accomplished that.
Ron was loved by all…..
