From Nebraska, the family moved to Seattle in 1940. Ron attended and graduated from Lake Forest Park Grade School (1947) and Roosevelt High School (1951).
He served both active duty and ready reserve in the USMC (1951-1960). He volunteered for Korea, and spent two months at Camp Pendleton before shipping out. He served in the First Marine Division, western Korea, as a teletype operator. Later, he attended NCO school, finishing 8th out of 135.
For many years, Ron worked for Washington Natural Gas (now PSE) in customer service, working on natural gas appliances and equipment, and was extremely skilled at his job. (Our 1968 dryer still works!) He retired in 2002.
In retirement, he volunteered for several years with Crime Watch in both Edmonds and Mountlake Terrace.
He married Charlotte L. Larson in 1974; they recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. For some years they enjoyed square and round dancing, until health issues dictated otherwise.
Ron attended several churches over the years, and accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized by Dr. Lowell Wendt at Alderwood Community Church in 1985. His dearest wish was for his children, grandchildren, and other family members to choose the same path. He and Charlotte are members of Grace Baptist Church.
For the past year, Ron resided at Abba’s Adult Family Home in Mountlake Terrace, Wash., and was lovingly cared for by Elizabeth, Sammy, and especially Charles.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, nephew Edward, and other family members, and by his best friend, Daniel Dow.
Ron is survived by his loving wife Charlotte; son Daniel, daughter Margaret Cowdrey (Robert) Clark; grandchildren: Eric (Sarah) Cassel and Skyler; Isaac, Alex and Jacob Trayer, and Lillian Criddle; sister Pamela (James) Hagen, brother Jim (Melanie) Sisson; brother-in-law Paul (Jill) Larson, nephews John (Ashleigh) Larson and Rurik, Bradley (Kristin) Sisson, and Jason Sisson, and other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Grace Baptist Church, 17123 13th Ave. W., Lynnwood, Wash. Viewing will be from 10:30-11:00 a.m., and funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Refreshments and fellowship following.
