We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Ruth Downey Kemp. Ruth was born in Los Angeles on December 16th,1950 to Robert Downey Kemp and Olive Margaret Dibben Kemp. Her sister Diana (Dee) Lee Sybrandt and brother Robert Downey Kemp preceded her in death. She is survived by her nieces Rachelle Joy and Raquelle Joy-Gluvna, grandniece Marissa Bell, grandnephews Cameron Joy-Kurtz and Dallon Joy-Gluvna, great-grandnephew Jonathan Bell and great-grandniece Faye Bell.
Ruth worked in various administrative and clerical positions in Southern California and retired to Seattle to be closer to her family. She was a passionate animal lover and adopted numerous cats and dogs over the years. She enjoyed going to the dog park and communing with fellow animal advocates. Ruth also loved children and spent a lot of time with her grandniece and grandnephew as they grew up. Later she donated her time to the local elementary school. Ruth also loved all things British and some of her favorite memories were when she was able to travel, spend time in London and the countryside talking to the local people.
A memorial service will be held in spring 2026 in California. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to an animal charity close to their heart.
May her soul rest in peace, and may her memory be a blessing to all.
