Shirley Lorraine “Rainy” Stevens was born on August 11, 1939, in Republic, Washington. Shirley was born to Louis and Frances (McKay) Stevens. Frances later married Jim Feeney, who became a beloved father figure in Shirley’s life. She was one of five children, with siblings Joanne, Jimmy, Karen, and Dennis. She graduated from West Valley High School in Spokane in the class of 1957. She went on to earn an associate’s degree from Kinman Business University in Spokane and was a member of the Toastmasters organization. Shirley enjoyed working for American Airlines, Washington Water Power, and the Ford Motor Company. On November 21, 1964, she married Merl George Weatherhogge. They lived in Seattle where they had two children, Scott and Stacy and one foster child, Tony. In 1975, they moved to Lynnwood, where they settled on two acres. Shirley later worked for the Edmonds School District. In 2005, Shirley and Merl co-purchased a cabin on Harstine Island with Stacy and her family. In 2007, they built a home in Everett connected to Scott and his family, where Shirley most recently resided. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merl George Weatherhogge, in March 2022. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Everett where she was the widow’s ministry coordinator. Shirley is survived by her son, Scott Weatherhogge (Laura); daughter, Stacy Ostlund (Rodney); grandchildren Julieanne (Andrew), Ben, Nick (Emily), Leah, Sarah, Stephen, and Elizabeth; and great-grandchildren Liam, Nikolai, Eleni, and Adeline.
Her Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2531 Hoyt Ave., Everett, WA 98201. A viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m.
Her Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Floral Hills Cemetery, 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, WA 98036.
