Sula was born to Roy and Gertrude Mills on September 12, 1946 and was raised in the Seattle/Bremerton area. The third of her mother’s eight children. Sula was known as the “little mother” of the group as she was always the caretaker for her younger siblings. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1965.
Sula had two children Stefanie and Aron while living in Lake Forest Park, WA. Their family lived in the home for over 30 years and Sula was part of many community groups for moms. She showered her children with special birthday parties, homemade treats, and lots of laughter. Sula was passionate about involving her children in their local community and always had them at the library, trips to Log Boom Park, and lots of different playgroups. Some of the friendships made in those groups were some of Sula’s most valued relationships.
Sula was the office manager for Friedman and Bruya in Ballard for over 20 years. She loved her time there and became family with all the staff until her retirement, in 2019.
Sula was a true kind-hearted servant who loved to volunteer. She donated her time and talents to the Center of Wooden Boats on Lake Washington who gives disabled individuals a chance to learn how to sail. Her passion for the arts led her to volunteer for the Intiman Theater in Seattle and took in many shows over the years as she was helping those who came to the theater. She was also an expert at knitting and would create blankets and hats for babies in the NICU at Children’s Hospital.
She cherished her time with her family and enjoyed traveling with her older sister Loretta to many fun places around the country. She loved to also visit her older brother Bruce in Alaska and also her son, Aron and family down in Texas.
Sula spent the last years at Mon Amie Family Home in Everett, WA. Our family would like to thank those who cared for Sula so kindly in these years and we love that she said she was “living with her roommates.” She felt like it was a true part of the family, and we will forever be grateful to them.
Sula Olson is survived by her daughter, Stefanie (Mike) Anderson of Everett, WA; their children Bryce Anderson and Kaysa (Austin) Talbot; Her son Aron (Melissa) Olson of Fort Worth, TX; their children Garrett Olson, Anna Olson, and Connor Olson.
Sula will be remembered for her continuous generosity and gentle spirit. Always willing to help those in need. A wonderful friend who would always take a call or enjoy a long lunch date. She always saw the good in people and never took the love of those around her for granted. She will be missed.
