Albert "Al" Kelsey Stokes

Albert K. "Al" Stokes, 75, of Lizella, Georgia, peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on July 4, 2026, surrounded by his family. While our hearts are broken by his absence, we find comfort in knowing that he is whole again and reunited with those who have gone before him. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday July 8, 2026, at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with Rev.Benjamin Newberry, Rev, Willie Finney and Chief Shane Edwards officiating. The family will greet friends from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Tuesday July 7, 2026, at Snow's @ Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Al was born on February 4, 1951, in Macon, Georgia, to the late Charles A. Stokes and Laura Bloodworth Stokes. He grew up in Lizella, where he developed a lifelong love for family, faith, farming, and hard work. He graduated from Lanier High School in 1969. Following graduation, Al worked various jobs before learning the carpentry trade alongside his Uncle Lee Bloodworth, helping build homes throughout the community. He also spent countless hours working on the family farm with his father and brother.

In 1972, Al answered another calling when he joined the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department For 34 years, he faithfully served his community with courage, humility, and unwavering dedication. To his fellow firefighters, he was more than a coworker—he was

"Captain." He earned the respect, admiration, and lifelong friendship of the men and women who proudly served beside him. The brotherhood of the fire service meant so much to him, and the friendships forged through those years remained some of his greatest treasures.

For 51 years, Al shared his life with his wife Nancy. Together they built a home filled with laughter, faith, and unconditional love while raising their five daughters. Although he wore many hats throughout his life--firefighter, carpenter, farmer, fisherman, mentor, and friend--the title he treasured most was "Daddy." His girls were the light of his life, and there was never any doubt how deeply he loved each one of them.

Retirement allowed Al to spend even more time doing what brought him the greatest joy— being with his family. Whether he was fishing, camping, working around the farm, or simply sitting on the porch surrounded by those he loved, those were the moments that filled his heart. Nothing, however, brought him greater happiness than being "Papa."

One of Al's greatest prides was his beloved 1955 Chevrolet, which he lovingly restored. Some of his favorite moments were loading up his grandchildren, cruising the backroads, and giving that engine a little extra rev just to hear them laugh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. Stokes and Laura Bloodworth Stokes; his beloved daughter, Wendy Stokes Owen; and his brother, Bruce A. Stokes.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 51 years, Nancy C Stokes; his daughters, Donna Stokes Woods (Chris) Macon, Ga., Stacy Smith Sams (Paul) Senoia, Ga, Kelly Stokes Moore Lizella, Ga, and Allyson Stokes McGreggor (Rob) Lizella, Ga; his nine beloved grandchildren: Meghan Owen, Blake Owen, Elizabeth Woods, Lauren Woods, Landon Woods, McKenzie Sams Van De Velde, Avery Sams, Gabe McGreggor, and Caden McGreggor; and one Great Granddaughter, Landry Van De Velde; sister, Marisa Stokes Mitchell; and brother, Cary Stokes; along with many extended family members, lifelong friends, and his fellow firefighters.

To know Al was to love him. He lived a life marked by faith, humility, service and sacrifice. His legacy lives on in every lesson he taught, every life he touched, and every heart that was blessed to know him. Though deeply missed, his family finds peace in God's promise that because of Christ, this is not goodbye—it is simply, "Until we meet again."
