He grew up in Sylacauga AL, but moved to Macon GA at the age of 15. He graduated from Lanier High School and Mercer University. He was retired from J. M. Huber Corporation. He was predeceased by his son, Billy Wayne Goodwin Jr.
He is survived by his daughter, Tonia McKinley and his brother, Dennis Goodwin of Birmingham AL.
