Billy Joe "BJ" Smith

Billy Joe “BJ” Smith, 79, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014. A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, April 8, 2014 in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Corbitt and Dr. Scott Rowlett will officiate. Interment will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:30 PM until service time at the funeral Home. Mr. Smith was born in Haralson County, Georgia to the late Ella Mae Mann Smith and Archibald Emanuel Smith. He was retired from Robin Air Force Base after 40 years, where he was an Air Logistics Manager. Mr. Smith was a faithful member of Lakeview Baptist church, serving as a Deacon and a member of the Choir. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling with his wife and spending time with his loving family and friends. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Alan Smith.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife: Sylvia Lanier Smith of Macon; son: Gregory S. (Julyie A.) Smith of Macon; grandchildren: Joseph Zachary Smith and Kaylie Ann Smith; great-grandson: Killian Sean Smith; brother: Preston L. (Clohie) Smith of Bremen; two sisters: Nell (Harold) Wright of Bremen and Imogene (Jerry) Estes of Tallapoosa; numerous nieces and nephews.
