I grew up with Bobby on a dead-end street called Beverly Place. He was my best friend, and in many ways, my hero and mentor, (he was exactly 2 years & 1 day older than me). On many a cold day, we walked to Clisby Elementary School together. On occasion, Bobby would fend off bullies from attacking his smaller friends. He had a very caring sister, (Betty), and an older brother, (Dr. Ronnie), who we younger kids all looked up to. Bobby loved them both, and spoke fondly of them, as he did of his mom, Marie. Bobby, and I, and my younger brother Cliff, had many adventures together; some best left unsaid, (secrets of childhood must be preserved). In many respects all of us kids on Beverly Place were brothers & sisters; we looked out for one another; Bobby was one of our chief protectors. Bobby was a far better friend to me than I was to him. My brother Cliff & I moved away near the end of elementary school and we lost touch with him. I kept up with Bobby's many achievements through mutual friends, and always respected his outstanding work ethic, and his devotion to friends and family. The one constant comment I kept hearing was that Bobby had a heart of gold. I'm glad to say that never changed from our boyhood days, and look forward to the day I can see him again in Heaven. May God bless & protect Bobby's friends and family. Wesley Patton :-)
