Charles Kingsford Buafo

Dr. Charles Kingsford Buafo was born in Ghana West Africa. The third child of Kwa and Ama Buafo. A Requiem Mass will be said on Thursday, August 6, 2026 @ 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Godfred Boachie-Yiadom officiating. Entombment will be at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel Mausoleum at Macon Memorial Park. A Rosary will be said on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. with a visitation to follow from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Snow’s @ Macon Memorial Park.

He completed his High School Education in Manchester England. He attended Bern University in Switzerland and Per Stranieri University in Italy before coming to The United States. He received his Bachelor of Science from Howard University in Washington, D.C.

His ambition led him to Temple University Medical School. He completed his Internship and Residency at The Cleveland Clinic in Ohio in Cardiovascular Diseases.

While in London England he met and married his wife, Shirley Buafo. This union brought forth a daughter Althea Buafo.

In 1982 he moved to Macon, Georgia and opened his medical practice. He was a respected leader in the medical community. He was recognized as the first Black Cardiologist in the Middle Georgia area. He also became the first black Chief of Staff at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. Dr. Buafo was a member of several professional organizations, including American College of Cardiology, American Medical Association, Medical Association of Georgia, and the Bibb County Medical Society.

During his 31-year career in medicine, Dr. Buafo held his patients’ care as his top priority. He showed deep passion and genuine love while caring for his patients. Dr. Buafo also did several medical missions to give back to his homeland in Ghana.

His interests were traveling, sports especially soccer, music, reading and an immense love and gratitude for his family, which was always evident.

Dr. Buafo was preceded in death by his parents Nana Kankyla and Nana Mansa, his daughter Althea Buafo, and three sisters and one brother.

He is survived by his loving wife Shirley Buafo. Grandchildren Hunter and Desiree Buafo. A host of nieces and nephews. God Daughters Soyini Coke and Kathy Phelps.
