Charlie Knowles

Born Charlie Mae Cammack, in Soperton, Georgia, on August 5, 1931, Charlie lived most of her life in Macon, moving to Putnam County in 2001, when she married Pat Knowles; the beautiful gift of a second marriage, following her forty-five years of marriage to O. H. Poole, who died in 1994.

“Miss Charlie,” as she was known by many, was a faithful member of Log Cabin Baptist Church in Macon for many years, and, for the past fifteen years, of Crossroads Baptist Church in Eatonton. A loyal volunteer at Putnam General Hospital for the past decade, “Pa,” as her grandchildren named and called her, lifted the lives of many people in many places with her gentle and joyful words and ways.

Preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Effie Cammack, her infant twin brother, and her son-in-law, Ron Michael, she is survived by her sister and brother, Nelle Shepard and Donald Cammack, her daughter, Rhonda Poole Michael, her son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Marcia Poole, step-sons Billy Knowles and David Knowles, step-daughter Libby Knowles; her grandchildren, and their spouses, Kimberly and Chris McLeod, Matthew and Kim Michael, Josh and Bett Poole, and Maria and James Madden, and fourteen great-grandchildren; each marriage and birth redrawing the map of Pa’s pride and joy.

A memorial service will be held at Crossroads Baptist Church on September 6, 2017, at 11 o’clock; preceded by a visitation which will begin at 10 o’clock. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 o’clock at Macon Memorial Park, 3969 Mercer University Drive, Macon Georgia 31204.

The family wishes to express our deep gratitude to the caregivers at Agape Hospice, to Dr. John King, and to the members, and pastor, of Crossroads Baptist Church, for their many kindnesses to our family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be given to Crossroads Baptist Church Building Fund, 106 S. Wesley Chapel Road, Eatonton GA 31024.
