Dorothy Maxwell Gordy

MACON – Dorothy Maxwell Gordy, 77, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, January 12, 2012 at home with her family and friends. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, January 14, 2012, in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Bobby Robinson will officiate. The family will meet friends from 3 p.m. to service time on Saturday at the funeral home. While flowers are appreciated, memorial contributions to Ronald McDonald House, 1160 Forsyth Street, Macon 31201 are welcomed.

Mrs. Gordy, wife of the late Lewis Edwin Gordy, was a resident of Macon and was the daughter of the late Oscar Newton Maxwell, Sr. and Christina Carrie Simmons Maxwell. She was the mother of the late Margaret Christine Shoup. She attended Mercer University and was a graduate of Georgia College and State University with a Masters in Education. She retired after twenty five years of teaching and loving children at Mattie Wells School. Mrs. Gordy was a member of Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church where she was also a member of the Faith Builders Sunday School Class. She got her strength through the Lord Jesus Christ, and her greatest contribution was her love and devotion and support of her children and grandchildren, always believing in the best for each one. Mrs. Gordy was an avid reader and traveler and loved meeting and getting to know people. Her favorite pastime was playing Bridge and her beloved dog, Maxie.

Survivors include the family she adored, her sons, Steven (Charissa) Maxwell Thomas of Knoxville, TN and Robert (Beatrize) Ross Thomas of Nashville, TN; her beloved grandchildren, Ginny Shoup of Macon and Rebecca and Joshua Thomas of Nashville, TN; her great grandchildren, Victoria and Serenity; her brothers, Oscar N. (Judy) Maxwell, Jr. of Huntsville, AL and William Maurice (Annette) Maxwell of Macon; several nieces and nephews.
