Elie Vickers Shaw, Sr.

MACON – Elie Vickers Shaw, Sr., 95, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Pine Pointe Hospice of Central Georgia. Funeral services and celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 21, 2012 in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Family and friends visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Casey Shaw, his grandson, will officiate.

Mr. Shaw, the youngest of seven children, was preceded in death by his parents, John T. and Rebecca Carver Shaw, a brother, and five sisters. Born in Berrien County, Georgia he had lived in Macon for most of his life. Mr. Shaw graduated from Mercer University in 1939 with a BS Degree in Physics. After several years of teaching school, he became a civil servant at Warner Robins Air Force Base, retiring with 32 years of service. He served as a commissioned officer in the Navy during WWII.

Mr. Shaw was a Master Gardner of Bibb County and enjoyed sharing his home grown vegetables with family and friends. He was a Mason and lifetime member of the Mickey Fuller Lodge. Hunting and fishing were the hobbies he enjoyed, very much a family man. He taught these skills to his children and grandchildren. He was handy with his tools and was known in the neighborhood as “Mr. Fix-It”. He could repair anything from bicycles, TV, to appliances and lawn mowers.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 72 years, Clarice May Shaw; son, Vic Shaw (Debbie); daughters, Rebecca Henderson and Sandra Archebelle (Jack). He has nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The family would like to thank the staff of Morningside Assisted Living and Pine Pointe Hospice for their care and special thanks to Cindy, Teen and Julie, his dedicated sitters.

Our father, grandfather and husband will be remembered for his belief in strength of family, generosity, and high moral values.
