MACON- Emmie M. Burns, 81, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2012 in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Tuesday, March 13, 2011 at Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church with the Reverends Bob Moon, Jay Harris and John Horton will officiate. Burial will be at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to: Martha Bowman Memorial Methodist church, 500 Bass Road, Macon, Georgia 31210 or the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry Street, Macon, Georgia 31201. The family will receive friends Monday, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Mrs. Burns was the widow of Weyman Dallas Ryals and was born in Danville, Georgia to the late Lizzie Bloodworth Nobles and W.H. Nobles. She was retired from the Bibb County Board of Education after thirty years as an accounting supervisor. She was a member of Hillcrest Methodist for 30 years before moving to Martha Bowman Church, where she served as president of Methodist Women’s Group, Sunday school teacher, Chairman of Council on Ministries. She was member and secretary of the Administrative Board at Martha Bowman UMC, member of the Nan Freeman Sunday School Class and the Joy Circle United Methodist Women. Mrs. Burns was President of Western Square Dancers (Solo and Y-Square). She was past President of the Zonta Club of Macon, past President of the Green Thumb Garden Club, Lifetime member of National PT Association. She and Weyman were active in the Boy Scouts of America, having served as Den Mother for six years and honored by Macon District as ”Den Mother of the Year”.
Mrs. Burns is survived by Husband: Edwin T. Burns of Gray, Sons: Jerome(Vivian) Ryals of Savannah and Keith (Linda) Ryals of Macon; sister: Laura Smith of Cochran; brother: Asa W.(Betty) Nobles of Danville; two sister-in-laws: Cleo Etheridge of Lake Sinclair and Carrie(Bill) Brown of Greenville, SC; three grandchildren: Straten Ryals of Savannah, Brianna Prinsloo of Valdosta and Brandon Ryals (USMC) of San Diego; two step-daughters: Lisa (Tim) Jones of Comptonville, CA and Denise Etheridge of Gray; three step-grandchildren: Amanda Etheridge of Dallas, Scott Etheridge of Gray and Bridget Morrow of Macon; three great grandchildren.
